Breathe easier with the right diagnosis in time

Our philosophy:
Find the cause of your breathlessness

"Breathlessness is one of the symptoms most often brushed aside. People blame their age, their fitness or stress. But breathlessness is the body's way of saying that something is not quite enough, and the cause can lie in the lungs, the heart or both. As a specialist in both respiratory medicine and cardiology, I see every week how much is gained by examining the whole chain at once instead of guessing.

‍The lungs and the heart belong together
At eHeart we never examine the lungs in isolation. Spirometry, diffusing capacity and cardiopulmonary exercise testing show us how oxygen is taken up, how the airways react and how the heart and lungs work together when you exert yourself. That lets us tell asthma from early COPD, or see that it is actually the heart that is holding you back.

‍Answers the same week, and a plan
You should not have to wait months to find out why the stairs have become harder. With us you get an appointment quickly, the examinations are done in a single visit whenever possible, and you leave the clinic with a clear answer about what we found and what the next step is.”

When you run short of breath, about asthma and COPD

More than a million people in Sweden live with asthma and around half a million with COPD. Many of them have never had a lung function test and are treated on instinct, or not at all. Both diseases can be slowed down and in many cases fully controlled, but only if they are detected.

If any of these points sound familiar, spirometry is a simple first step. The test takes half an hour and is painless.

NOTE! In case of sudden severe shortness of breath, bluish lips or chest pain: call 112 immediately.
  • Do you get out of breath on hills and stairs where you never noticed it before?
  • Do you have a cough that has lasted for more than eight weeks?
  • Do you wheeze or have a whistling chest, especially at night or during exertion?
  • Do you get chest infections more often than others?
  • Have you smoked for more than ten years, or worked with dust, smoke or chemicals?
  • Do you wake up feeling congested or short of breath?
  • Is there asthma, allergy or COPD in your family?
  • Do you want to know how your lungs are doing before you step up your training?

Breathlessness and your lungs

Breathlessness is hard to measure yourself. It creeps up on you, and many people adapt their daily life without noticing: taking the lift, walking a little slower, avoiding the hill. That is why we use a graded scale that captures the change. Four questions about when you get breathless, how long you have been coughing and how you react to exertion. The test is based on the international mMRC scale and gives you an indication of whether your lungs should be examined.

The test does not replace a medical assessment.

Spirometry including diffusing capacity
You blow into a mouthpiece that measures the volume and function of your lungs.
